New Coffee Trend: Iced Coconut Water Americano

Food & Wine, the global authority on food and drink culture has shared its recipe on this social media’s favorite, the iced coconut water Americano, also described as an energizing and hydrating drink.  It is nearly identical to a traditional Americano, but with one major swap, that is pouring coconut water over ice and then topped with a shot or two of espresso.


The sweet, slightly salty coconut water helps smooth out the bitter flavors in espresso, allowing to fully appreciate the coffee’s complexity and highlighting its fruity notes.  Some people add in a touch of honey, frothing it into the espresso before pouring both over ice.  The extra ingredient though may be optional and should purely depend on how sweet one likes his coffee, wrote the Food & Wine. 


Many patrons are crediting Rhythm Zero, a coffee shop in New York City, as the origin of the iced coconut Americano. The store’s perfect ice coconut Americano has been credited to its selection of coconut water.  It uses Strange Water, a brand of regular and sparkling canned coconut water sourced from coconuts grown in the Ben Tre region of Vietnam.
