Ball Copra Price Rally in Karnataka on Dwindling Output

Prices of ball copra or edible copra have surged to record levels in India’s Karnataka State as the coconut production was impacted by erratic weather pattern in the Southern part of the State, the key producing region for the commodity, The Hindu BusinessLine reported on June 12. Karnataka holds a dominant position in the production of ball copra, which is used for edible purpose and is considered in the dry fruit category.
Ball copra prices have risen by around 50 per cent since early March, the report said. Modal prices (the price at which most transactions take place) of ball copra in the Tiptur APMC, a major market for the commodity, which hovered around the ?14,000-15,000 levels per quintal during early March, have crossed the ?20,000 levels in early June on dwindling supplies and touched ?21,500 on 9th June. The maximum price stood at ?22,356, while the minimum price was ?20,000 on the same day.
