Destinations of Coconut Oil Exports in February

Exports of coconut oil in February consisted of crude coconut oil at 91,173 MT, cochin (refined, bleached) coconut oil at 1,950 MT, and RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized or fully refined) coconut oil at 34,507 MT.  The export mix turned in USD240.120 million, more than twice last year at USD107.048 million (+124.3%).
Europe remained the top destination responsible for 58.3% of the coconut oil export mix or 74,352 MT.  This was followed by Malaysia with 22,609 MT (17.7%), China at 8,581 MT (6.7%), USA at 7,079 MT (5.5%), Indonesia at 6,330 MT (5.0%), Sri Lanka at 4,703 MT (3.7%), and Japan at 1,981 MT (1.6%).  These markets combined accounted 98.4% of total coconut oil shipments for the month.
Export to Europe was largely crude coconut oil at 61,201 MT (Netherlands 49,600, Latvia 8,000, Spain 3,500, Sweden 101).  Malaysia was second biggest buyer of crude coconut oil at 22,580 MT, trailed by Indonesia at 6,330 MT, Sri Lanka at 656 MT and Thailand at 406 MT.  This month’s shipment of cochin oil of 1,950 MT went solely to Japan.
For this month of February, Europe took the lead in RBD coconut oil trade with uptake at 13,151 MT (Netherlands 12,141, Belgium 352, Croatia 309, Poland 125, and six others which held 20-63 MT namely France, Bulgaria, Italy, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovenia). China followed at 8,581 MT, the USA at 7,079 MT, Sri Lanka at 4,047 MT.  These leading destinations were jointly responsible for 95.7% of total RBD coconut oil deliveries.  Moreover, RBD coconut oil were the only imports of China and the USA during the month.
Smaller loads of RBD coconut oil were shipped to Iraq at 530 MT, Canada at 233 MT, Singapore at 213 MT, Taiwan at 156 MT, Pakistan at 125 MT, Iran at 103 MT and nine other countries with uptakes ranging 17-44 MT.  The latter group comprised of Australia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Africa, United Arab Emirates.
