Ducom, First Company to be Verified Under Sustainable Coconut Charter

Dumaguete Coconut Mills (DUCOM) has become the first company to be verified under the Sustainable Coconut Charter.  The Philippine agribusiness company, which is involved in the processing and manufacture of coconut derived products such as copra, coconut oil, copra meal, oleochemical, was the first company to be verified under the Origin Standard.  The Sustainable Coconut Partnership (SCP), which administers the charter, announced the development last month.

Developed as a collaboration between buyers, processors and producers to improve farmers’ livelihoods, protect the natural environment and build climate resilience, the charter’s aim is to harmonize requirements across long and complex coconut supply chains, and improve traceability and transparency.

The SCP also announced another first.  A Spanish vegetable oil company, LIPSA (Lipidos Santiga) has become the first company to be verified under the Sustainable Coconut Charter under the Supply Chain Standard. LIPSA is a leading supplier in the market and the largest vegetable oil refinery in southern Europe, with a processing capacity of more than 900,000 tons/year.
