US Imports of Lauric Oils Flat in February

Data from Oil World show the US imports of lauric oils in February this year was 71,800 MT, recording a flat growth from February last year at 71,800 MT.  A bigger part of the lauric oils import mix (55.2%) was palm kernel oil at 39,600 MT with coconut oil representing the balance at 32,200 MT (44.8%).  The decline in coconut oil import was offset by the increase in palm kernel oil. Import of coconut oil appreciably dropped 18.7% from last year at 39,600 MT while import of palm kernel oil leaped 23.0% from 32,200 MT.
Indonesia was a primary supplier of lauric oils to the US during the month with delivery of 47,600 MT (27,700 MT last year) accounting for 66.3%.  This was a combination of palm kernel oil at 35,500 MT (27,400 MT) and coconut oil at 12,100 MT (300 MT).  The Philippines was second biggest shipper and contributed 24.8% solely from 17,800 MT (37,400 MT) of coconut oil. 
Delivery from Malaysia at 3,800 MT (4,400 MT) shared 5.3% and consisted only of palm kernel oil. Purchases from Others totaled 2,600 MT (2,300 MT) representing a 3.6% participation.  The mix was largely coconut oil at 2,300 MT (1,900 MT), and palm kernel oil was 300 MT (400 MT).
Imports in January-February accumulated to 153,000 MT, a modest rise by 3.3% from 148,100 MT at the same time a year ago.  Coconut oil was 77,800 MT (88,800 MT) of which 69.0% or 53,700 MT (82,800 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 75,200 MT (59,300 MT) of which 83.2% or 62,600 MT (47,000 MT) was shipped by Indonesia.
